About Louise
Dr Louise Wightman has worked as a Nurse, Midwife and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Child and Family Health in various regional, rural and remote nursing and community services in around Australia. Louise established a Young Parents Program in regional Queensland that included a peer parenting support to encourage young parents to complete their high school education while parenting their infants and children.

Louise has a keen interest in research related to parenting, education and the health and wellbeing of families and recently completed a Doctor of Philosophy focused on quality and competence in the specialist practice of child and family health nursing. Louise holds a sessional academic position at Flinders University in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

She commenced as a board member of Maternal Child and Family Health Nurses Australia (MCaFHNA) Inc in 2015 and was the President of MCaFHNA Inc from 2018-2020. Louise has guided MCaFHNA through the transition to a single-entity national company now known as MCaFHNA Ltd. She has been the current Chair of MCaFHNA since 2021 and has represented MCaFHNA at national forums and strategic working groups.
